Did you know that:

• Worldwide, 3500 young people are infected with HIV daily, Advocates for Youth (http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/index.php)?
  
• Worldwide, almost half of all new infections occur in young people?
  
• In the United States, while just over 16% of newly diagnosed infections occur in young people, it is believed that almost a third of all new infections actually occur in young people (but many of these are not diagnosed right away)?
  
• More men than women are infected in the United States--but, for young people ages 13-19, since 1993 and 1994, more and more new infections are in women who are infected by heterosexual contact; in fact the infection rate for young women has increased many times since the ealry 1990's so that 2/5 of new infections in young people now occur in women?
  
• African Americans account for over half of all new infections in young people (aged 13-24)?
  
• Blacks and Hispanics--who together make up around 28% of the United States population (see http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html)--represent more than 2/3 of all new HIV/AIDS cases reported in 2007?
  
• Two-thirds of all those infected with HIV worldwide live in Africa, where, depending on the country, anywhere from a few percent to almost a third of the population may be infected with HIV (however in some African countries--Zimbabwe--the HIV infection rate is falling)? What if that epidemic came here?
